Summary: Regular data collection/cleaning, moved soil sensors and Arable, from field back to tower, first fall precip expected soon, record-breaking heat wave last week
2022-09-16 Bouldin Corn Carlos and I arrived at 10:50 PDT. It was warm with hot sunshine and a cool breeze; first fall precip is expected in a few days. Last week 2022-09-05 to 2022-09-08, most the Bay Area had a record-breaking heat wave with 3 days of all-time high temperatures recorded. The corn is almost all yellow and dry. Fields to our east, south, and southeast have all been harvested. I downloaded met, cam, and USB GHG data. Carlos found the USB drive under the tower that I dropped last time. I downloaded PA data and power cycled it. I changed the eddy clock +30sec and restarted logging. I still couldn't connect to the FD chamber today, but I could hear it buzzing. Next time I'll bring a different cable to try. Carlos cleaned flux and rad sensors and topped off the wash reservoir. To prep for harvest, Carlos removed the FD chamber and soil sensors from the corn field and installed everything under the tower. The soil sensors were buried at the same depth as they initially were in the field: -30cm for the Campbell probes and the Theta probe was buried near the surface so the body was covered and bottom of tines were at -15cm. The heat flux plates were installed at -5cm. I removed the Arable from the field and installed it about 20m north of the tower along the edge of the field. The sensors are facing the field and it's at about the same height as before. The 7500 read: 400ppm CO2, 660mmol/m3 H2O, 25.7C, 101.5kPa, 97SS – 101 after cleaning The 7700 read: 2.05ppm CH4, 50RSSI – 81 after cleaning We left at 12:30 PDT. |
