Summary: Regular data collection/cleaning, replaced sonic to fix SOS issue, sounds of hunting, some data lost from power outage, dfPAR still weird
2022-01-02 Mayberry Mike and I arrived at 11:00 PST. It was cold but the sun had come out and there was a little breeze. We could hear sounds of hunting, but not too close to us. The staff gauge read 51 cm. The precip bucket tipped once as I walked by it. The system is losing power occasionally overnight. We lost about 2 days of data in the past 2 weeks. The sonic SOS has been bad since late October. We didn't notice it at first because the u, v, w had reasonable patterns. Today I replaced the sonic: sn 153804 came off (heading = 26 deg true N) and sn 153805 went on (heading = 23 deg true N). I tried to replicate the heading exactly but I couldn't get the bolts back in quite the same place and I'm not sure why. The bottom of the mount is flaking or delaminating. The bolt closest to the post is rusty. I could get it off but I had trouble getting in on again because I think I cross-threaded the nut. I left it as is and will replace it next time with a new bolt and nut. I checked that the u, v, w, and sos numbers seemed reasonable. I downloaded met, camera, and USB GHG data. The dfPAR data was spiky but the past few days seemed ok after the power was on consistently. I downloaded the miniDOT data and changed its desiccant. I cleaned flux and rad sensors and refilled the wash reservoir. The camera only had photos through 2021-12-25 until the system lost power. The Canon camera is also doing that weird thing where some of the daytime photos have a dark tint. I think changing the internal Canon coin cell battery helped resolve this issue about a year ago. It's a quick solution but I'm surprised the battery needs changing again. I downloaded the picam and the stardot, which seemed to have all their photos. I checked the conductivity sensor as part of its routine check every 3 months and confirmed the orifice was clean. The lower mirror on the 7700 was still spinning for about 20 sec while I was there at 11:30 and at 12:00. I'm not sure if this is a problem or not as the data seems reasonable. I downloaded the config file to send to James K at Licor to follow up. The spinning happened both before and after I updated the firmware at the end of November. I think the power cycling from the chewed camera cable last fall messed up all the GHG sensors: the 7500 had to be sent back to the factory, the sonic needed to be replaced, and the 7700 spins its mirror. This 7700 issue doesn't seem to affect the measurements though. LI-7500 readings: CO2 457 ppm H2O 335 umol/mol T 8.8C P 102.0kPa SS 101 --> 101 LI7700 readings: CH4 2.3 RSSI 48 --> 80 after cleaning We left at 12:20 PST. |
