Mayberry: 2021-10-21 12:20:00 (DOY 294)
Author: Daphne Szutu
Others: Joe, Francisco
Summary: Regular data collection/cleaning, journalist visit, cattails look well chewed, installed diffuse PAR--not working yet, dissolved CO2 data suspect, tested tipping bucket, first substantial rain earlier this week and more rain this weekend
2021-10-21 Mayberry Joe, Francisco, and I arrived at 12:20 PDT. Again, Francisco left his motorcycle just inside the entrance gate and rode in the back of the truck to the site. The center padlock on the Mayberry cable gate has been taped with duct tape…I’m not sure why. It was cool and mostly overcast. It has been lightly raining on and off over the past few days; this weekend we are will have an atmospheric river with an expected 12-20 cm rain, wow! The cattails looks well chewed and the water level is still going down. The staff gauge read 27cm and there was exposed mud under the boardwalk leading to the tower. I downloaded met, cam, and USB GHG data. Joe cleaned flux and rad sensors. The 7500 was wet from the rain. After cleaning, the 7500 SS was 104, which I reset to 100. I downloaded FD data and cleared its memory. I downloaded the miniDOT data and swapped the desiccant for the miniDOT and water level sensor. The dissolved CO2 data from the eosGP looked weird—the diurnal peak was decreasing and had been mostly 0 for the past week. There was no copper screen on this sensor and there were a few tiny crustaceans inside the plastic sensor. I’ll look at the data more and maybe pull the sensor next time. We don’t have a spare eosGP sensor right now, though. I don’t remember the reservoir level, but we refilled it. Joe installed a diffuse PAR sensor at the top of the camera post. I updated the met datalogger program to add in a SDI-12 command to read the CR10x. I also removed the fluorometer data columns and commands because we’re not going to put the Turner C3 fluorometer back here anytime soon. After powering and connecting everything, the shadowband was turning but no CR10X data was coming into the CR1000. The SDI-12 command had the correct control port (C5) and address (X), so I’m not sure what was wrong. We left it as is for now and will think about it more. Sensors installed: PAR sensor sn Q100420 CR10x sn 35474 We tested the tipping bucket sn 40415-1006. Joe cleaned out the tippers and then dripped 240ml of water through the bucket using a peristaltic pump powered with a lithium battery. This should result in 50 tips in about 20 minutes. We got 54 tips. We turned its set screws 1.5 turns CCW. I will test it again at the next visit to see if the adjustment was sufficient. LI-7500 readings: CO2 588ppm --> forgot to check after cleaning. H2O 880ppm T 19.3C P 1001.7kPa SS 83 --> 104 after cleaning --> reset SS of sn 0418 from 104 to 100 LI7700 readings: CH4 2.33 RSSI 41 --> 84 after cleaning We left at 14:00 PDT. Francisco headed back to Berkeley and Joe and I went to Twitchell. Looking at the data back in the lab, the HMP AirT started drifting low the night of 10/20. Check this sensor at the next site visit. |
