Summary: Performance check in FD Chambers, rewired power in data logger box, did spectra.

I arrived at about 9:30 PDT. It was clear sunny and hot but the breeze from the west still felt cool. We are coming off several days of 100F (40C) temperatures. Everything on the ground is cooked but the trees still seem okay. I saw two trees that put on leaves this spring but now have died. The water hole is dry.

I measured the Well and the soil moisture. I collected the flux data, the camera images.
The 7500 read: 419.8ppm CO2, 542.4mmol/m3 H2O, 99.2kPa, 24.0C, 114.3SS â€“ seems high, check last cal.

For the FD chambers I collected and then cleared their data before doing a performance check on each. The performance check is an option from one of the menus and it samples both chambers five times comparing the values. If both chambers are exposed to the same air (lying on its side) the chambers should read the same and flux should be zero. At the end you have the option to reset the concentration back to 400ppm. For chamber sn FD20200001 the CO2 reading was -58ppm and for chamber sn FD20180068 the CO2 reading as 611ppm (I had to do this one twice and got 615ppm the first time). Both were reset to 400 which was a little low â€“ ambient from the 7500 was about 419ppm. Both chambers were also removed from their usual position, laid sideways on the ground for the check and then reinstalled. The software says the check can take up to 10 minutes, but it is more like 20 minutes!

While I was waiting for chambers to do their thing I rewired the power in the data logger box. All the power runs through the pluggable power strip installed last time. Everything seemed to be working when I checked afterwards and downloaded the data. The Phenocam clock was good.

I went to the pond and collected the data there â€“ all seemed well. The lithium power pack was still showing full charge.

I left at about 11:45 PDT
