Summary: Regular data collection/cleaning, calibrated 7700, took some spectral measurements, changed sonic heading

Hill Slough

Dennis, Robert, and I arrived at 10:00 PDT. It was a breezy day and partly overcast. Grizzly Island Road construction continues and the road has been paved. We drove off the road and parked by the boardwalk gate. Dennis suggested having a ladder available to more easily get on and off the boardwalk to and from the ground at the tower end.

I collected met, camera, and USB GHG data. I downloaded FD data and cleared its memory. Robert cleaned flux and rad sensors. Dennis took some spectral measurements but it was partly overcast so he’s not sure if he likes the numbers he saw.

The wash reservoir was 60% full, we refilled it.

We calibrated LI-7700 sn TG1-0211 with 2 new tanks. The Zero cal gas was a baby tank of N2 that Sebastien B. had dropped off to us at the lab this morning. The Span cal gas is also an AMP tank with CH4 concentration of 4.223 ppm.

Robert adjusted the sonic position slightly since it was too close to the 7700 to get the 7700 hood on. He measured the new sonic heading with a cellphone.

New sonic heading: 10 deg E of N

We forgot to remove the 7700 wash nozzle at first and didn’t get the hood properly sealed; we used up about 500psi of zero air for the zero. The zero and span were off more than I expected; zero offset was 0.077ppm and the span offset was -0.123 ppm. I thought maybe the gas tanks were off at first since this was our first time using both tanks, but as we went through the day most of the calibrations were pretty close, so I guess this 7700 was that far off. After the calibration, we reattached the 7700 spray nozzle.

LI-7500 readings:
CO2 410ppm
H2O 560ppm
T 22.0C
P 101.8kPa
SS 98 --> 99 after cleaning
LI7700 readings:
CH4 2.0ppm
RSSI 46 --> 70 after cleaning

We left at 11:25 PDT.
