Bouldin Alfalfa: 2018-10-04 10:10:00 (DOY 277)

Summary: Recent rain left gas analyzers dirty, ant in data logger box, took down camera experiment.

Bouldin Alfalfa
2018-10-04

I arrived at 10:10 with Dennis and Kuno. It was cool with patchy high, thin clouds. The ground surface and alfalfa was still wet with the first light rain of the season. We drove along to field roads from BC because of road work near BC and no dust due to the rain. However only the surface was damp and just below the surface was still dusty. Recent light rain left the gas analyzers (especially the 7500) dirty.

The 7500 read: 398.5ppm CO2, 704.8mmol/m3 H2O, 20.5C, 101.5kPa, 97SS – 98.9 after cleaning
The 7700 read: 2.01ppm CO2, 51.0RSSI – 83.5 after cleaning
The wash box was full.

There were little black ants in the data logger box. We left them a couple of moth balls.

The Picam seemed to have a full set of photos. I down loaded them but did not clear them from the camera and then had Kuno remove the four test cameras.

Dennis did veg height and spectral measurements. The protocol he used for the spectral measurements was to take a reference and dark and then take repeated measures looking down and up and then take a reference and dark at the end. He thinks the averaging was set to one.

We left at 10:35

On the way out we stopped to talk to Tyler at his alfalfa chambers. Then we drove on the levee under the bridge to get back on the highway on the north side. The new concrete median makes it impossible to make a left turn back onto the highway. There is also a lower road under the bridge that might work too.
