West Pond: 2013-10-02 12:30:00 (DOY 275)
Author: Cove Sturtevant
Others: Sara, Patty
Summary: Collected water samples, downloaded data. Ants have colonized the Met box, but no problems.
West Pond 2013-10-02 We arrived around 12:30 PDT. It was sunny and warm (24 C) with a light breeze. We had to walk to the site on the north side of West Pond due to tractor activity on the south road leading into the site. Sara stopped to collect water samples while Patty and I continued on to the tower. The water level was a bit low but okay. We did not have the opportunity to check whether the inlet was flowing. The ants are back, but this time they have colonized the Met box. They particularly liked placing their eggs between box and the underside of the water CO2 circuit board. There is a significant amount of ant residue on the board, but the readings looked okay. I placed a tule stem in between the bottom edge of the board and the box to prop up the board and keep the underside more exposed. Next time we need to bring silicone to seal up the holes where the cables come into the box, although I doubt this will keep them from creating another way in. Industrial little buggers, they are. 7500 readings: CO2 = 368 ppm (394 after cleaning) H2O = 650 mmol m-3 (480 after cleaning) signal strength = 76.8% (81.8% after cleaning) t = 24.1 C p = 101.3 kPa sos = 347.4 m s-1 7700 readings: CH4 = 1.95 ppm with pretty strong ramps (same after cleaning) RSSI = 44 (80 after cleaning) Reservoir was 5/6 full. MET looked good. Downloaded data. |
