Summary: Inlet running, normal water under tower. Ants interminable. Thermocouple shroud in 7700 path broken, but thermocouple ok.
West Pond 2013-08-05 We arrived around 11:15 PDT. It was sunny, breezy, and warm (21 C). The inlet was finally running and there was a normal water level under the tower. Laurie took water samples. The ants in the 7550 box are interminable. They not only chewed through the silicone I added to the door seal, but have also found another entry by tunneling through another port in the box. At this point I think we need to experiment with more poison bait or some other more drastic measure. The electronics appear to still be fine, at least. 7500 readings: CO2 = 385 ppm (same after cleaning) H2O = 670 mmol m-3 (same after cleaning) signal strength = 87.2% (87.9% after cleaning) t = 22.0 C p = 101.2 kPa sos = 347.3 m s-1 7700 readings: CH4 = 1.87 ppm (same after cleaning) RSSI = 31 (82 after cleaning) The thermocouple shroud in the 7700 path was broken off and the thermocouple junction exposed, although the temperature reading was still fine. Joe might have a replacement we can bring out next week. MET looked good. The water CO2 concentration was high, it should be interesting to see the fluxes before and after the water levels changed. |
