Summary: Replaced sonic with RS422/232 converter. Troubleshot power short in theta probe.

I arrived about 11am. It was hot and sunny with little wind. The wind was mostly from the north but variable.

I tested the sonic that we removed yesterday in the lab and didn’t find any problems except possibly in the cable from the sonic to the PCI that we had to cut up to get out of the box. I prepared a Quatech RS422 to RS232 converter to replace the PCI.

I started to replace the sonic on the tower and wire it into the CR1000 when I notice the CR1000 did not seem to be running. Loggernet said that it could connect but reported many low 12v errors. I checked the solar charger and it reported a load of more than 5A. I started disconnecting things trying to figure out where the power was going. I finally traced it to the theta probe. I left the theta probe unpowered.

The CR1000 seemed to have lost its program. I removed the card and transferred its data to the field netbook before reinstalling it and uploading the program. This seemed to get everything working again.

I also downloaded the images from the plantcam because I unpowered it while searching for the 5A power leak.

I stopped and talked to Frank on the way out. Frank was setting up CO2 flux equipment in the old location in the east pond. His Twitchell corn field is doing latent heat by energy balance. He measures H, G and Rn.
