Bouldin Alfalfa: 2025-01-15 15:50:00 (DOY 15)
Author: Daphne Szutu
Others: Joe, Kuno
Summary: Wheat is filling in, new zcam installed, dead mouse + hawk feathers
2025-01-15 Bouldin Alfalfa Joe, Kuno, and I arrived at 15:50 PST. The wheat is continuing to fill in and the field actually looks fully green now. Only the tops of the alfalfa plants are showing and they look brown and sparse relative to the wheat. It was sunny and mild with hazy horizons. Lots of geese about. We saw a coyote loping away from the tower toward the south as we drove up on the interior road. At the tower, there was a whole pile of bird feathers that Joe thinks came from a hawk. Kuno noticed part of a dead mouse on the boardwalk, so maybe our tower saw part of the food web with mouse —> hawk —> coyote. Joe took veg height measurements. He attempted spectral measurements but the reference was weird at our low sun angles. I downloaded met, cam, and USB GHG data. Kuno cleaned flux and rad sensors. Kuno placed zcam sn RPI0W-002 on the ground south of the tower. This camera has a new camera board (same fisheye lens as before) and more silicone around the lens for hopefully better weatherproofing. The zcam is wired to the 12V power strip in the met enclosure. The picam clock had reset back to 1969-12-31 so I had to ssh into the picam to reset its clock, even though it was powered off for weeks in the lab without losing its clock. The 7500 read: 434pm CO2, 350mmol/m3 H2O, 19.3C, 102.2kPa, 99SS—100 after cleaning We left at 16:10 PST. |
