Summary: Brought spare scaffolding, prepped for replacement of lowest frame set rusting out, fixed logging problem with underwater PAR, picked up some junk.
Mayberry 2024-08-30 Daphne and I arrived at 13:15 PST. It was clear sunny and warm with a little breeze. We stopped at West Pond and picked up the long pipes we left there yesterday along with all the rest of the scaffolding. This included three sets of frames, three sets of cross braces and four foot jacks. All of our material is now removed from West Pond. Here at Mayberry, Daphne did the regular data collection while I messed about trying to figure out how to replace the bottom set of frames on the tower. Daphne collected the flux, met, miniDOT and camera data. She cleaned the radiometers and eddy sensors and replaced the miniDOT and water level sensor desiccant. The 7500 read: 409ppm CO2, 730mmol/m3 H2O, 26.0C, 100.8kPa, 104SS - 106 after cleaning The 7700 read: 2.05ppm CH4, 39RSSI - 70 after cleaning. The water level was 56cm. The salinity was Surface, 1134uS, 27.3C We added an underwater PAR sensor last time but forgot to put it in the output table, so no data from that sensor yet. Daphne fixed this and uploaded the new program. The northeast corner of the scaffolding is totally rusted through just above its foot jack. Last time we added pipes to support that end of the scaffolding. This time I retrieved the foot jack. It is totally rusty and partly covered with dead barnacles. It was attached to a wood block but I don't think the scaffolding is sitting on concrete piers. There were two concrete piers and two large pavers on the levee near the tower. We brought three more concrete piers from the lab. I think the support posts we put in last time sunk into the mud a little bit and the tower was less level than we left it. I put two concrete piers in the water next to the existing pipes and added the two longer pipes on top of the piers. We tried to lift the scaffolding with ratchet straps from the top of one pipe to the scaffolding but only got a little lift. I think we will need to use the shepherds jack and/or maybe that huge ratchet strap Ari used for soil cores. We moved the two pipes from last time to the other side of the scaffolding and attached them on top of the pavers. We left the three sets of frames and cross braces from West Pond chained to the back of the solar panels. We pulled a pile of rope and floats left over from Gavin's work out of the weeds and threw it in the back of the truck for reuse/recycling/disposal. We left at 14:14 PST |
