Summary: Helped Troy troubleshoot trailer - pushed a button, swapped 7500s for calibration, read TOMST ptden, added new TOMST on small pine, removed old HMP45 at Floor met, Cows disturbed Tree1 FD and OSU net.

I arrived at about 12:35 PDT. It was mostly clear, sunny and cool with some white fluffy clouds floating past. The trees are starting to put on leaves and there is a scattering of wild flowers. There are still puddles on the road with more rain to come. There are lots of hoof prints and a broken fence at soil co2 but I didn’t see any cows. There were tadpoles in the big puddles in the road.

I started on the soil moisture, DBH, wells and zcams, while I waited to hear from Troy about troubleshooting their trailer. Troy called and said he had no connection to the trailer system. Seemed the Verizon hotspot was off. Restarting the hotspot gave him access. Later I restarted the big spectrometer for him which he could have done remotely but was easier for me to do manually. Afterwards the camera was busy pointing at things.

At the Floor I swapped the 7500 for calibration: sn 75H-2667 came off and sn 75H-2176 went on. I entered the pressure coefficients and restarted the box. Back in the lab I found about five 30min ghg files that were corrupted just after our last visit. 7zip was able to recover most of one file but the others were just full of null values.

At the Tower I swapped the 7500 for calibration: sn 75H-2669 came off and sn 0073 went on. I entered the pressure coefficients and restarted the box.

I forgot to clean the phenocam window so I climbed the tower a second time to clean the window.

I read all the TOMST point dendrometers I installed last time. The values looked okay but I’ll need to look at them more closely in the lab. I installed another TOMST dendrometer sn 92243047 on the small pine next to cluster 1 oak (aka 133). This dendrometer is at breast height just below the first set of branches. The tree circumference is 63.2cm. This tree doesn’t have an id because it has grown after they tagged all the surrounding trees. Maybe we should name it.

I removed the old HMP45 sn W0510026 from the Floor met system and updated the met program to remove the measurements and two columns from the met table. I had to cut the cable to get it out of the box, but I don’t think we will use this sensor again. The new Hygrovue is running.

I fixed the soil CO2 cow fence. They had knocked over the Tree1 FD chamber and slightly tilted the net radiometer to the north. I fixed these too. The newish battery I had put on the cow fence a few weeks ago was reading 5.4V. The solar panel said 19V as an open circuit but connected to the battery – 5.4V. Might be dead.

Zcam1 and Zcam3 have dead clock batteries. I knew about Zcam1 but now I can swap both next time.

I left at about 16:20 PDT.
