East End

Dennis, Izzie, and I arrived at 12:10 PST (13:10 PDT). Izzie is an Environmental Sciences senior using Delta data in PEPRMT for her thesis. It was mostly overcast, calm, and cool. We could hear seals, frogs, and various birds while at the tower. We had stopped atop the levee by the pumphouse to show Izzie the view. Someone from the reclamation district drove by and said the seals were hanging out waiting for the stripers (striped bass?) that are “running from the ocean.”

The staff gauge read 62cm. I downloaded met, cam, and USB GHG data. I also downloaded miniDOT data and swapped its desiccant. Dennis cleaned flux and rad sensors; I topped off the wash reservoir.

Izzie measured surface water conductivity off of the pier.

Sample, Temperature-compensated conductivity, Water temperature, Notes
Surface, 754uS, 11.6C, about 10cm below water surface
Surface, 771uS, 10.9C, about 25cm below water surface which seemed to be near the ground

The 7500 read: 430ppm CO2, 430mmol/m3 H2O, 19.1C, 101.4kPa, 94SS – 95 after cleaning
The 7700 read: 2.0ppm CH4, 46RSSI – 75 after cleaning

Dennis dug up some peat on the edge of the wetland to show to Izzie. It was a great peat sample, dark and homogeneous, so we decided to bring it home with us in a plastic bag to bring to the field trip in 2 weeks.

Izzie is using East End data so obviously she said this site was her favorite. She was surprised wetlands plants grew so densely together.

We left at 12:45 PST (13:45 PDT).
