Summary: Warm day, storm prep, water on the field is draining, grounding wire disconnected--needs grounding rod

Bouldin Corn

Robert and I arrived at 14:05 PST. It was warm and mostly overcast with thin/hazy clouds. A storm will come in tomorrow and another one Sunday into Monday. Forecasted winds for both events will be >10m/s (20+ mph). The gate was locked and there was about 2cm of standing water under the tower, but the drain was open and we could see water flowing toward that corner of the field. Not sure if this is a temporary change in light of the storms or if they are done flooding the field for the season. We could hear many ducks/geese in the area but didn’t see any on our field.

I downloaded met, cam, USB GHG, and PA data. Robert cleaned flux and rad sensors and refilled the wash reservoir. He said he heard the plop of something dropping from the met box onto the ground, but we couldn’t find anything in the puddles.

I also noticed the grounding wire is not connected to anything in ground, and I didn’t see a grounding rod. Maybe we removed it at some point (as a pilot rod for installing thermocouples?) and then forgot to replace it. I wrapped the wire end around the tower for now.

The 7500 read: 486ppm CO2, 660mmol/m3 H2O, 20.6C, 101.4kPa, 101SS—101 after cleaning
The 7700 read: 3.08ppm CH4, 57RSSI – 78 after cleaning

For storm prep, we moved the upper boardwalk down to a lower rung on the scaffolding. Robert also checked all 4 turnbuckles, which were snug.

We left at 14:25 PST. The mud pit is a little better with 4WD although we still skidded toward the end. It’s been about 5 days since the last rain, so this is probably as good as it’s going to get.
