Summary: End of year field work, Zcam 1 wet again - removed, swapped 7500s for calibration, removed long dead Moisture Point probe, added solar panel to pt dendro #1
| Tonzi 2024-01-02 I arrived at about 11:15 with Kyoko and Hisashi. The Delta and Central Valley were socked in with fog. Here there is a low overcast occasionally broken with a bit of blue sky and sun. It’s cool with a breeze from the south. There has been some recent storms and more rain to come. The trees are mostly bare and the grass is just biding its time. The puddle in the road is full to the brim but the ground is not sloppy yet. Hisashi and Kyoko did the soil moisture and well measurements. I did the DBH and serviced the zcams. Zcam 1 is wet again. I’m not sure if the camera is ruined or not. I mopped up the water in the box, added some fresh desiccant and tied a plastic bag over the box. I need to reseal the window next time and see if it leaks again before adding another camera. I added fresh desiccant to the other two camera boxes too. I swapped the 7500s for calibration. At the Floor sn 0041 came off and sn 75H-2667 went on. 0041 read: 438.4ppm CO2, 390.1mmol/m3 H2O, 13.6C, 99.8kPa, 100.9SS 2267 read: 446.6ppm CO2, 385.5mmol/m3 H2O, 13.4C, 99.8kPa, 98.8SS After I updated the pressure coefficients I reset the box. At the Tower, sn 75H-2180 came off and sn 75H-2669 went on. 2180 read: 429.5ppm CO2, 469.0mmol/m3 H2O, 13.3C, 99.5kPa, 99.9SS 2669 read: 437.9ppm CO2, 424.7mmol/m3 H2O, 13.2C, 99.4kPa, 100.2SS After I updated the pressure coefficients I reset the box. I collected the flux, met, camera and FD data. All seemed well. I pulled Moisture Point probe B sn 00000A3D04E8. It has a broken pin and the shaft is cracked too. It hasn’t worked for a long time – more than a year. I fixed the fence around the Floor site that the cows had broken. The other two fences had the chargers on and seemed intact. I added an old Arable solar panel to Point Dendrometer #1. The silk screen on the board says max Vin is 6.5V. Open voltage on the panel was about 6.8V but would drop to <6.5V when the board started taking power I think. I’ll collect the data next time and see if the batteries charge or not. We left at about 14:00 PST |
