Summary: Regular data collection/cleaning, CR1000 hangup--fixed?, no photos on camera card, FD chamber was tilted--fixed for now but needs more attention, dfPAR unwired--fixed
2022-04-26 Bouldin Corn Carlos and I arrived around 13:00 PDT. It was windy and sunny. The field to our south is getting tilled. Some of the corn on the west side of the island (south of Hwy 12) is starting to come up. At the tower, lots of weeds coming up that we should deal with sooner rather than later. I had trouble connecting to the CR1000 datalogger. It sometimes could connect, but then the real-time data (Public table) would be blank or frozen. I thought maybe it was a cable issue because my USB cable is soldered to an eosense connector and the soldering has come apart in the past. I used a spare cable I had in my laptop bag, but I had the same issues. I pressed the Eject button for the CF card; no LED light came on. I cycled the power on the datalogger. I was then able to connect fine, and the green LED came on as expected on the CF module when I pressed the Eject button. I downloaded met, cam (maybe), and USB GHG data. I dusted off the phenocam window which had a few spiderwebs. We are missing most of the water level and diffuse PA data from the past 2 weeks. There was a loose 12V wire connecting the dfPAR CR10X to the power strip—fixed. Water level wires looked ok. I moved the 2 AG wires to the same G channel (they were on separate channels before). That seemed to fix the problem, so maybe one of the AG wires was loose before (but I’m surprised a loose AG wire would stop the data). Back in the lab, I didn’t see any photos on the camera card. This is the same datalogger where I had trouble getting the card to mount properly 2 weeks ago. I’ll have to check the card status carefully next time after inserting a new card. I didn’t have my ethernet-USB dongle I use to connect to the 7550, so I couldn’t see live GHG data. However, there were the right number of files on the USB drive and the LED lights were blinking appropriately, so it should be ok. I downloaded the PA data and cycled its power. I downloaded the FD data and cleared its memory. I downloaded the IRT data by swapping the microSD card and using CardConvert to convert the fast data to TOB1 and the slow data to TOA5. The FD chamber was partly tilted and the bottom was probably exposed to the atmosphere (not sealed against the soil). We did our best to secure it to the ground, but it needs more attention next time when we bring 1-2 more garden stakes and 1 more wire hook. I'm not sure how long the chamber has been tilted like this. Probably somebody knocked it over between 2022-03-31 and 2022-04-13 at the same time they stepped on the well sensor cable. We left around 14:00 PDT. |
