Summary: Regular data collection/cleaning, flat tire on rental truck--put on spare, calibrated 7700, removed 4x4 wooden post, installed new dfPAR mount
2021-12-01 East End Joe and I arrived at 11:30 PST. It was cool but warming up as the fog started to burn off. We punctured our right rear tire somewhere on the road between Mayberry and East End. The car’s dashboard alerted me to the low tire pressure when we were a few minutes away from the Twitchell gate and I could track it dropping from about 30psi to 20psi. At the gate, we stopped to look at the tire and found the puncture mark, a slit about 3/4cm long, but no nail or anything sticking out of it. Joe decided he could put on the spare so we continued on to the site. The tire was at 16psi when we arrived at East End. Joe found the tools and jack behind the rear sets and lowered the spare from underneath the truck. Since this rental truck had only 900 miles when we picked it up, the spare tire was in great shape. He removed the bad tire, put on the spare, and placed the bad tire underneath the truck. The staff gauge read 29cm. We calibrated 7700 sn TG1-0423. The optics RH was 15% so I didn’t flush the headspace or swap the drierite. The calibration looked good. I downloaded met, cam, USB GHG, and miniDOT data. I changed the desiccant for the miniDOT and water level sensors. There was no HMP AirT or RH data since last visit because one of the power leads had broken off from the power strip. I fixed it and the data looked fine. Joe cleaned flux and rad sensors. There was dew on the CO2 sensor so it didn’t have good data before the cleaning. We topped off the wash reservoir. We removed the wooden 4x4 from the southeast corner of the scaffolding which used to hold the Canon camera and the diffuse PAR mount. The camera is now a Picam mounted on the scaffolding, so we don’t need the 4x4 anymore to keep the diffuse PAR up above all of our other structure. Joe installed a new diffuse PAR mount on the top post of the scaffolding with sensor sn 040411. The PAR sensor and motor are the same as before, but the sensor has a newly spliced cable and there is a new 4-lead cable that connects to the CR10x. Both cables had been corroded in several places before. We wired everything up in the CR10X (while dodging some wasps) and the numbers looked reasonable. We brought the 4x4 back to the lab. LI-7500 readings: CO2 125000 --> 467ppm after cleaning H2O 148000 --> 566ppm after cleaning T 17.5C P 101.9kPa SS 0 --> 103 after cleaning LI7700 readings: CH4 2.5 RSSI 65 --> 83 after cleaning We left at 12:50 PST. |
