Bouldin Alfalfa: 2021-12-01 14:15:00 (DOY 335)
Author: Daphne Szutu
Others: Joe
Summary: Regular data collection/cleaning, alfalfa mowed, calibrated 7700, tested tipping bucket--no adjustment needed, aspirated ATMOS14, removed one HMP45 from intercomparison, data in mux sensors--tightened screws
2021-12-01 Bouldin Alfalfa Joe and I arrived at 14:15 PST. It was mild and sunny but hazy at the horizon with Mt. Diablo was nowhere to be seen. Since our last visit 2 weeks ago, the alfalfa has been mowed and bales have been removed. Joe trimmed the alfalfa under the tower and the Arable post. There was some nettle among the alfalfa under the tower, probably planted by bird droppings. Joe dusted off the undercanopy PAR sensor. We calibrated 7700 sn TG1-0155. The optics RH was a very low 3%. This sensor was last calibrated (and repaired) at the factory in April, so they flushed out and/or sealed the headspace very well. The calibration looked good. We tested the tipping bucket sn 65560-615 by dripping in 240ml of water into the bucket. This should result in 50 tips in about 25 minutes, and we got exactly 50 tips. This bucket should be good until next year. Joe didn't see any live ants in the precip bucket, maybe only a few dead ones, so maybe the mothballs were effective. Joe added a fan to the ATMOS14 to aspirate it for the final portion of the HMP intercomparison. I downloaded the intercomparison data and noticed HMP45 sn U3030041 (wired to DE1/2) was giving bad data and it didn't seem like a wiring or power issue. I brought it back in the lab to test; the radiation shield and fan are still up. I downloaded met, camera, and USB GHG data. I downloaded the FD data and cleared its memory. I downloaded the IRT data by swapping the microSD card and using CardConvert to convert the fast data to TOB1 and the slow data to TOA5. PRI numbers were not coming in but I forgot to check it before I left so probably no PRI data for the next 2 weeks unless there's an unintentional power cycle. Most of the mux data still had gaps--I tightened the CLK/RES/12V/G screws on the mux by 3/4-1 turn. I also checked the screws for the sensors. Most of them were loose so I also tightened those. I should check the mux at our other sites. LI-7500 readings: CO2 450ppm H2O 610ppm T 21.4C P 101.8kPa SS 96 --> 99 after cleaning LI7700 readings: CH4 2.5ppm RSSI 70 --> 84 after cleaning We left at 15:20 PST. Back in the lab, I noticed the phenocam and reset its date to 2021-04-01 on 2021-12-01. I restamped and fixed the text overlay for this batch of photos. I need to update the phenocam clock on my next visit. |
