Summary: Added IRTs from surface renewal experiment, fixed loose resistor on Theta probe temperature and moved probe, set pi-cam clocks, removed one PL Arable, power cycled diffuse PAR 10X

Bouldin Corn

Daphne and I arrived at 9:15. It was clear hot and sunny with a little breeze. The corn is belly high. The weeds are mostly dead so they probably sprayed it with herbicide in the last few days. There was a crop duster working to the west.

I worked on installing two Apogee IRT sensors for a surface renewal project by Kevin Tu. The IRTs were mounted by clamping a plate to the end of the square tube of the radiometer boom: sn 1073 points north at 4.45m agl and sn 1076 points south at 4.30m agl. Both IRTs are pointed down at a 45deg angle. A box with a CR1000X sn 1132 and charge controller sn 2963 is mounted to the right (north) of our data logger box. It seemed to be running with reasonable temperatures. But after problems with the charge controller at BA we returned at about 12:30 and bypassed the charge controller since our system is already supplying a regulated 12VDC.

Daphne set the clocks on the pi-cams: pi-cam 1 was reset from 8:46 to 8:38 and pi-cam 2 was reset from 9:12 to 9:00. An 8:45 image was deleted from pi-cam 1. Images were downloaded from both cameras and their memories cleared.

After cleaning the flux sensors:
The 7500 read: 418ppm CO2, 460mmol/m3 H2O, 29.2C, 101.5kPa, 101SS
The 7700 read: 2.0ppm CH4, 74RSSI

The resistor for the Theta probe temperature had come loose. We put it back in place and it was reading about 29C because the sensor was at the soil surface. I decided to bury the sensor so that temperature means something. I put the Theta probe sn M003370 in vertically at 20cm below the ground surface.

Per instructions from Arable I removed Mark II sn C003771 and its solar panel, which we will get to use at West Pond. I removed the PVC cross piece and put the remaining Planet Labs Mark II directly on the post. The Marks were at 2.41m agl and I raised the remaining one to 3.14m agl.

The diffuse PAR had a bunch of NaNs. Daphne cycled the power on its CR10x but not sure if that will solve the problem.

I measured veg height.

We left at 10:35

Veg Height (cm): Tape measure from ground to top of plant
98, 120, 117, 120, 98, 130, 120, 120, avg = 115.4, stdev = 11.38
