Summary: Regular data collection/cleaning, hunting day, new gate code, changed calib PAR to face downward, swapped 7700 reservoir power cable
2020-12-16 West Pond I arrived at 11:45 PST. It was chilly and it was a lot foggier here than on Sherman Island earlier in the day, but there was some weak sunshine coming in through the clouds. There were about 4-5 cars parked by the rice fields for the hunting day. At the tower, the staff gauge read 14cm. I noticed some sheep droppings on the grass roads leading to the tower, but maybe they were there last time. In any case, all the weeds are pretty brown so I’m not sure what they were eating. I downloaded met, camera, and USB GHG data. I cleaned the flux and rad sensors. The radiometers had some condensation on their sensors. The HMP60 sensor fan was not working. There were no spare 12V fans in the bag, so I put in a 24V fan for now (maybe this is why RH has been railed high? I need to check last time this fan was changed). There was also a 7700 time sync error which was resolved with a 7550 box reset. Since the water level was a little higher today, I raised the minidot by one chain link so it’s not resting against the mud. The reservoir was ½ empty; I refilled it. The 7700 pump was not working when I tested it, so I swapped the reservoir power cable. I also downloaded the intercomparison data. I changed the Ameriflux calibration PAR sensor sn 060831 so it was facing downwards. We could have a potential work day here in the near future. The tower is tilting to the NE. I would also like to neaten the cables--they're crisscrossing everywhere and half are in split loom, half are not. Maybe swap the Canon camera for a phenocam. The camera window is very foggy in the winter, and its view changes with each site visit. At some point we will also be removing the intercomparison sensor and swapping the tower HMP60 for a HMP155. I left at 12:40 PST. I had followed in when arriving on Twitchell Island, but unfortunately, the combo had changed so I was stuck on the inside of the gate when I tried to leave. I think Bruce changes it every year for the new hunting season. After a few minutes someone from GrowWest stopped at the gate to come in. After I told him the old combo, he told me that Bruce had texted him with the new combo. I’ve e-mailed the combo to Joe and Ari. Next year we’ll have to remember to ask Bruce for the new combo. I’ll put it on the to-do list. |
