Summary: Regular surface and porewater collection
Erin and I arrived at Mayberry at around 8:45 am. It was a sunny day, no clouds in the sky. The water level keeps decreasing; the staff gauge reading was 28 cm. We collected surface waters in the channels, inlet and outlet location there was no standing water in vegetated areas. Conductivity/Salinity keeps increasing although slightly in surface waters +0.4 ppt, likely due to decreasing water levels. Porewaters were collected at the channel at -10, -30 and -50 cm. At the 0.7 footprint site (Phragmites site), we could pull porewaters from -20 cm to -50 cm (-10 cm was dry). At the 0.5 footprint site (Cattail), we sampled at -10 to -30 cm. The sippers are less clogged with lower water levels. Salinity in the channel's porewater keeps stable, with little changes throughout the last 8 months. Porewater salinities in vegetated soils are similar than last month and increased slightly. pH is decreasing in channel porewaters but stable in wetland porewaters. Readings at the tower (surface water) Conductivity: 3073 uS Salinity: 1.6 ppt pH: 6.22 T: 11.7 C Porewaters (average all depths) Conductivity: 7785 uS Salinity: 4.3 ppt pH: 6.53 T: 12 C We processed the samples at the site and left at 4.45 pm |
