Summary: Swapped 7500, removed most of the soil CO2 system, Stardot reset its clock to April, standard field work

I arrived at 9:15. It was cool clear and sunny with a light breeze from the southwest. There are cows (moms and calves) around. We got some rain almost two weeks ago but not much – enough to clean the solar panels. The ground is no longer crispy instead damp with dew. There is some grass struggling to sprout up through the litter but not enough to see unless you look carefully. I met Dale Vaira and his wife on their way in to do some road repairs towards the east end of their land. Dale asked about wild pigs – seems the neighbors are still having trouble with them. A few trees still have some green leaves – down in the flat just uphill from Rancho Seco many of the trees still have green leaves.

The plan was to swap 7500s today but I discovered that I had forgotten to copy the new config files from the other laptop. Luckily I had other work to do removing most of the soil CO2 system and while I was doing that Daphne came to the rescue emailing me the files. I was able to use my phone as a hot spot and tether the Fluxalot laptop to my phone to download the config files. So I was able to swap the 7500s after all. But later I accidently deleted the screen shots so I don’t have before and after measurements. CO2 was around 450ppm and H2O was around 320mmol/m3 both before and after the swap. I changed the pressure coefficients and restarted the 7550. Sn 75H-2176 came off and sn 0418 went on.

I removed the soil co2 box with CR10X sn 20139, AM16/32 mux sn 5609, and 9 Vaisala GMP interface boxes. I ran a new power wire in conduit from the main solar controller box to the new 23x box and removed the old solar controller sn 03220377. I also removed the probes and cables for the North and East profiles:

I left the plastic casing pipe and spooled up the thermocouple wires for the embedded thermocouples just in case. At the east profile I removed the four extra thermocouples inside the plastic pipes with the CO2 probes. I mounted the other box with the CR23x sn ???? on the post with cable ties because it had narrower holes that didn’t fit the U-bolt from the original box. The west profile of Eos GP sensors is running and collected by the cr23x. I was thinking about swapping the current standard power relay with a solid state switch. The relay is active for 8min each half hour so there might be some power savings. I need to check the relay power consumption and the Eos GP sensor power needs.

I did the two Moisture Point readings, the well depth, cleaned the radiation sensors and did a handful of spectra measurements.

The Stardot reset its clock at the beginning of December – the month got changed to April but otherwise okay I think.
