Bouldin Alfalfa: 2020-11-19 10:10:00 (DOY 324)

Summary: Swapped 7700 for calibration, swapped HMP for return, tested tipping bucket, new gate preventing west bound entry on to highway.
Bouldin Alfalfa 2020-11-19 Daphne and I arrived at 10:10. It was cool with lifting fog. The Alfalfa was shin high and really wet with dew. There was rain in the last couple days but the roads were still almost dry. There were sheep in the fields to the north. Lots of geese in the air. We have a spare 7700 at the moment from the tower we are moving to Hill Slough which we calibrated in the lab. So at this site we just swapped out the 7700 – sn TG1-0421 came off and sn TG1-0211 went on. Daphne connected the new 7700 in the software, reset the box, had a clock sync error, reset the box again. She changed the eddy clock +1 min to sync with the laptop time. Another box reset fixed the clock sync error. The 7500 read: 446ppm CO2, 563mmol/m3 H2O, 11.7C, 102.6kPa, 99SS – 100 after cleaning 7700 0142 read: 2.2ppm CH4, 39RSSI 7700 0211 read: 2.1ppm CH4, 71RSSI The wash reservoir was 10% low – refilled. We removed HMP45 sn T1250012 to return to Siyan and replaced it with HMP60 sn G4540021 from the tower that we are moving the Hill Slough. New RH/T sensors have been ordered. We tested the tipping bucket sn 65560-615 pouring only half of the allotted water in at a time to slow the drip rate. Here we got 106 tips. Better than the 90 or 116 we got at other sites. We will wait on adjusting the screws until we have a better water metering method. The tipping bucket cable need a quick disconnect plug at the data logger. Daphne collected all the data including the FD chamber and cleared its memory. On our way out, the gate on the north side of the highway that usually lets us on in the west bound direction has been replaced with a motorized gate which was closed. We tried the road where the over pass near the corn site is but that also has a closed motorized gate. We ended up getting back on the highway headed east, crossed over the bridge and turned around to get headed west on the highway. We left at 11:05 |
