Summary: Regular data collection/cleaning, no water under the tower, no power at datalogger--fixed, lost 1 day of met data, removed water level sensor for repair, installed Picam as phenocam, soil samples for Kuno
| 2020-07-21 East End Metta and I arrived at 11:25 PDT. It was a windy, mild, and partly overcast day. There was no water under the tower, and the top of the soil was white-ish and had a cracked, rumpled appearance. The eosGP, miniDOT, and conductivity sensors were all measuring air. Ariane and Erin came around 12:30 to take some soil samples for Kuno - We took 10 15-cm cores separated at 3 m from each other approx. following the openings in the vegetation that Alex created for the bag decomposition experiment. At most of the sites the upper 15 cm of soils came out dry. I collected met, camera, USB GHG, and miniDOT data. I cleaned flux and rad sensors and changed the desiccant from the water level sensor and the miniDOT. The wash reservoir was 2/3 full; I refilled it. There was no power at the datalogger when we arrived, and we lost about a day of met data. The GHG data was fine. There was a short in the water level sensor cable—looks like it had been chewed in one spot. I brought the sensor sn 20010375 back to the lab for testing. SHFP1 was having spikes, so I moved it from mux12 to mux13 and updated the datalogger program. I added a Raspberry Pi cam (sn RPI0W-005) to replace the Canon phenocam that had been stolen in June. The clock on the pi looked good. The power cable I made for the camera is way too long; might be worth replacing it in the future. I tried adding the new Apogee NDVI sensors, but I need to add about 1m of cable onto them each. LI-7500 readings: CO2 406ppm H2O 705ppm T 23.0C P 101.0kPa SS 102 --> 102 LI7700 readings: CH4 1.87ppm RSSI 48 --> 80 after cleaning Metta left around noon. I left at 14:25 PDT to head to Bouldin Island. Ariane and Erin left shortly afterwards. |
