Summary: Regular data collection/cleaning, water samples for Isabel, water samples for Ariane, FD chamber membranes submerged, missing camera photos 6/16 to 6/22
2020-07-07 Mayberry Ariane and I arrived at 8:50 PDT. It was a sunny, breezy, and warm day. The water level has gone up a lot. The staff gauge read 54 cm. I downloaded met, camera, miniDOT, and USB GHG data, but completely forgot to download the FD data. The camera was off when I arrived, but it had taken pictures up until 19:15 the night before. Back in the lab, I didn't see photos from 6/16 to 6/22. I'll double check the card again, but I don't think the photos were on the card. The fluorometer lenses looked pretty clean. The lens with the red border was a little smudgy, so I wiped all the lenses. I also gently wiped the outside of the FD chamber and the diffusion membranes, which had aquatic muck on them. The muck seemed to wipe off easily, though, so maybe it'll be ok as long as we wipe it every field visit. I cleaned the flux and rad sensors. When I arrived, the FD membranes were below the water level. I raised the cable as much as I could, but the membranes were only half submerged. But now the cable is as tight as it will go (without raising the hook on the tower post), so the floating boom won't lower anymore in case the water level goes down. I changed the miniDOT and water level sensor desiccant. I collected water samples for Isabel at 8:30 PST. The wash reservoir was 1/3 empty; I refilled it. Before leaving, I checked the sn of the solar charge controller, which involved unscrewing the controller from the enclosure. I reset the charge controller and restarted the camera. The 7550 was blinking and the mux was clicking. LI-7500 readings: CO2 399ppm H2O 617ppm T 21.6C P 101.2kPa SS 96--> 99 after cleaning LI7700 readings: CH4 1.95ppm RSSI 46-->82 after cleaning Ariane and I collected surface water samples at the tower, 0.5, 0.7, 0.8 and 0.9 footprint locations. Then porewaters were collected at the tower channel (-50 cm) at the 0.5 and 0.7 footprint sites (-10,-20,-30,-50) and at the channel in the west (0.8 footprint site at -10 and -30 cm). We had to use a portable sipper + syringe assembly at the 0.5 and 0.7 footprint sites, these sites are fully covered by vegetation and sediments must be finer as the hydraulic conductivity is extremely low. Conductivity in surface waters was lower than during the last visit likely due to the new water added to the wetland. Readings at the tower channel (surface waters): Conductivity: 2360 uS Salinity: 1.34 ppt pH: 8.17 T: 20 C Average porewater values: Conductivity: 8900 uS Salinity: 5.50 ppt pH: 6.80 T: 21 C We left at 12:10 to collect more water samples at WP. |
