Summary: Serial port and Ethernet problems at tower, swapped solar charge controllers at Floor and Soil CO2, Zcam 2 resetting its clock.

Siyan, Kyoko, Hisashi and I arrived at about 11:00. We are still social distancing in separate family cars. It was clear sunny and hot. The grass and ground surface are crispy.

I checked on the Tower computer. The multiport serial box had not connected correctly in the last day or two. Unplugging and reconnecting the USB cable solved the problem. I think only two ports are being used and it might be a good idea to use a smaller/simpler 4-port box instead. Later, the Ethernet was having some problem. I could not connect to the 7500 and then the FLIR. Checking that all the jacks were tight and restarting the Ethernet hub seemed to fix the problem. Currently the hub is powered from the CR1000 5V port â€“ it should get its own DC-DC converter.

I checked on the solar controllers at the Floor and soil CO2 hoping to find a 30A model that I could swap out for a 15A model. At the Floor, the system was converted to a 24V system and now had a max current of just under 15A so I swapped out that controller: sn 0127000A came off and sn 12501584 went on. At the soil CO2 site I stepped on a wire approaching the box and pulled the battery negative loose for the current controller. The controller was a battered looking 1st generation 30A model. This is a 24V system too and the panels max out at just a few amps so I swapped the controller here too: sn 186580399 came off and sn 12501588 went on. The new one is loose near the bottom of the box which gives the wire to the batteries more slack.

I collected the eddy data and the data loggers including the IRT system that is still having issues with its radio. I collected and cleared the FD chambers. I checked on the resistors used for the Vaisala CO2 probes. These all seem to be 121 Ohms.

Siyan did the wells, DBH and midday water potential. Kyoko and Hisashi did the soil moisture.

I serviced the zcams. Zcam 2 is losing its time even though I swapped is clock battery last time. Maybe the battery I put in was no good, it read 3.0V on the volt meter.
