West Pond: 2019-11-14 09:30:00 (DOY 318)
Author: Daphne Szutu
Others: Ariane

Summary: Regular data collection/cleaning, water samples, downloaded miniDOT, water samples, swapped 7500 for calibration, plenty of water in the wetland

West Pond

Alex and I dropped Ariane off here around 9:30 so she could get started on her water samples. I came back at 15:15 to download data (Alex was at East End). It was mostly overcast, cool, and breezy. The wetland is mostly brown, but there are 2 green patches of tules in the middle of wetland. The water level was 71 cm. The water level was high enough that you had to step over water from the levee road onto the wooden platform. The inlet was running when we arrived at 9:30.

We ran into Bruce while at East End and he said he would be raising the outlets at both West Pond and East Pond.

Ariane collected water samples starting at 9:30. Surface water samples were collected at the inlet, west outlet and across the EC footprint using the existing boardwalks to avoid disturbing the soil water interface. In total 9 locations were sampled for pH, conductivity, temperature, dissolved CH4, DIC, DOC, nutrients, ions and metals. Conductivity, T and pH were measured in situ in all locations and CH4 sampling was conducted in parallel. Samples from four locations were fully processed for the rest of parameters in the field.The last 5 were collected in 1L bottles, kept refrigerated and processed in the lab on the same day.

pH was significantly higher at the inlet (7.39) relative to the other locations. At the Tower parameters read:
Conductivity (T corrected):202.3 uS
pH: 6.46
T: 11.2 ºC

Water was flowing downstream at both outlets. Outlet heads were 3.5 and 7.5 cm east and west, respectively

I downloaded met, camera, USB, zcam, and miniDOT data. I cleaned flux and rad sensors. The wash reservoir was mostly full; I topped it off. I swapped LI-7500 for calibration: sn 75H-2182 came down and sn 75H-2667 went up. I uploaded a new config file, updated the pressure coefficients, and reset the box. Afterwards I checked that USB was logging, GHG columns looked good, and there was no time sync error. I swapped the miniDOT desiccant.

LI-7500 readings (sn 75H-2182 --> sn 75H-2182 clean --> sn 75H-2667):
CO2 411ppm --> 420 --> 418
H2O 609ppm --> 620 --> 599
T 16.7C --> 16.6 --> 16.8
P 101.8kPa --> 101.8 --> 101.9
SS 94 --> 99 --> 101
LI7700 readings:
CH4 1.92ppm
RSSI 43--> 75 after cleaning

Ari and I left at 16:00 to pick up Alex at East End.
