Field Notes

When: July 21, 2004 (D203) arrived at 1100 PST
Where: Tonzi/Vaira Ranch
Who: Siyan Ma, Qi Chen, and Ted Hehn
Weather: Sunny, hot (40 - 42^oC), nice breeze on the top of tower
Phenology: yellow grass, dead

Summary

1. Overall EC systems were running well. Data were downloaded. In the floor PC, Gillsonic.exe was located at D:\Tonzi\. Be more careful when move Met data from D:\Tonzi\ to D:\Tonzi_2004\.
2. Ted will re-set datalogger (23X) and two multiplexer in Vaira site today and tomorrow.
3. Soil moisture was measured, but TDR reading screen may not perform well under direct sunlight? Or maybe TDR need recharged? Where is the charger?
4. Leaf samples were taken from the trees with Tag 33, 31, 30, 222, and 29. Flags needed.

Tonzi_Tower Site

1. Fence and gate were good. > 12 v
2. Panel and Batteries were working well: Battery 13.3v; Solar 0.0 apms (probably because the batteries are fully charged.); Load 4.8 apms.
3. Calibration tanks: Ted removed Praxair Cylinder # CC108631 (425.8 ppm) and installed Praxair Cylinder # SA3583 (428.7 ppm). A full N2 tank is put behind the garden box.
   CO2 2200psig, flow ~10psi;
   N2 1100psig, flow ~10psi.
4. Ted gave Siyan training on the manual calibration of CO2 profile system.
5. Download data successfully.

7. Ted need replace Aspirator Fan on TNRH Floor Mat.

Tonzi_Floor Site

1. Fence and gate were good. >12 v
2. Panel and Batteries were working well: Battery 13.3v; Solar 2.1 apms; Load 2.6 apms.
3. Download EC data: the RAW data is right under D:\. Siyan moved all of files from D:\Tonzi to D:\Tonzi_2004\Met and caused PC208W couldn’t find Gillsonic.exe which should be located at D:\Tonzi\. The lesson - Be more careful when move Met data from D:\Tonzi\ to D:\Tonzi_2004\. Only move the renamed files, which ends with .10X or .23X.
4. Manually download data from CR23X3 and CR23X5. If the connection between Floor PC and data loggers is lost, one can unplug power line on each data logger and put it back. It usually works again.
