Summary: Replace PC, lost communication between data loggers.
| When: Fri, 18Sept03, JD-261 Where: Tonzi/Vaira Ranches Who: Ted Hehn Weather Clear and hot. Trip Purpose: Replace PC at Vaira, Repair CO2 profile system and soil temp profile at Tonzi. Vaira Ranch: Arrive 09:00, clear and warm Need to paint fiber glass enclosures. They are beginning to deteriorate and give you glass splinters when you touch them. Remove PC (Dilbert) and install Hobbs Communication with 10x & 23x OK Watch dog timer does not function reliably, begin diagnostics: there is no continuity between the CR23x ground and the flux system ground- for the watch dog to function the lead that goes into the laptop must be grounded to the system ground so if there is no continuity between the 23x ground and the system ground it cannot work. Place a bonding wire between the ground steak and the data logger battery negative post and watchdog begins to function reliably. However, the intermittent ground that we are experiencing will return at some point and the new ground wire I installed will constitute a ground loop. I also suspect this intermittent ground is the source of the error we are seeing when the 4 way radiometer parameters switch output order!!!!!!!!!!!! A complete revamping of the Vaira site will be necessary to eliminate this intermittent grounding problem Blew a 5 amp fuse during power up. Replace 5 amp fuse with 30 amp fuse. Lost communication with the data loggers and was unable to restore. Believe the registry file is corrupt and will not allow PC208 to access the *.DLL files. Data will not be auto transferred to the laptops so a manual download will need be performed upon next visit. |
