East Pond: 2018-05-31 13:45:00 (DOY 151)
Author: Daphne Szutu
Others: Alex, Katrina

Summary: Regular data collection/cleaning, water level lower, leveled sonic, installed PiCam, rewired mux to try to fix data spikes, Alex cleaned out pond outlet

East Pond

We arrived at 13:45. It was breezy and sunny with some clouds. The wetland is greening up and the water level is much lower, 56cm on the staff gauge. I lowered the miniDOT and conductivity sensors into the water so they are now measuring 10cm below the water surface.

Alex got in the water and adjusted the PVC floats for the floating profile; two of them were stuck on some TC wire and not floating freely in the water column. The water surface has a lot of algae and mosquito fern (?). She also measured some veg height (cattail – 180, 160, 135cm; tule – 250cm).

I collected met and USB GHG data. There were spikes in LWin and LWout, so I re-wired them from channels 5/6 to 11/12 and uploaded a new CR1000 program to reflect the new wiring, EastPond_Met_20180531. SWin and SWout look fine now. The SHF plates still look weird (step pattern instead of diurnal pattern we see in other wetlands). We've double-checked the wiring and programming, and I’m not sure what to do about it besides pull them up for inspection.

We installed the PiCam on the SW tower post and adjusted the view so it’s 2/3 wetland, 1/3 sky. It sees about ½ open water and ½ vegetation.

Alex leveled the sonic and will wait to see the new flux data before potentially raising the flux sensors. Katrina cleaned rad and flux sensors. The pivot for the radiation boom seems loose.

LI-7500 readings:
CO2 400ppm
H2O 507ppm
T 22.4C
P 101.7kPa
SS 93 --> 98 after cleaning

LI7700 readings
CH4 1.9ppm
RSSI 56 --> 73 after cleaning

We left at 14:40. On the way over to WP, we dropped Alex off at the EP outlet so she could clear out the clogged drain.
