Twitchell Rice
2016-09-29

I arrived about 12:45 with Dennis, Kyle and Sam. It was clear, sunny and warm. I called Bruce in the morning to ask about harvest but had to leave a message. I tried again when we arrive but still no answer. Later Bruce call back when we were about ready to leave from Alfalfa for the day. He said they would start harvesting this weekend. So about 3pm we returned to remove the tower from the field.

The 7500 read: 367ppm CO2, 532mmol/m3, 26.9C, 102.3kPa, 90.7SS – 97 after cleaning
The 7700 read: 1.9ppm CH4, 56.4RSSI – 60 after cleaning

Dennis took clip plots of the rice but did not take the weeds which were about head high and too big to put into the sample bags.

Kyle downloaded data from the Golden Rad tower. However, the CR6 clock was offset – the only one I did not check last week! When the CR6 clock read 14:20:06 it was reset to 12:15:00.

I tried to swap the Canon N series camera for the A series from East End, but the A series would not power up. We have been having power problems with the N series too. I cut the camera power line off the load side of the charge controller and connected it directly to one of the batteries. The A series still did not power up, the N series seemed a little better – maybe. I left the N series running.

At 3pm we returned to move the tower out of the field for harvest. The ground sensors were a pain to untangle from the weeds. With three of us to lift the tower it was pretty easy to move it up on to the berm. The 7700 was removed for the move and reinstalled. We tested the spray and spin system an it seemed to be working. All the data looked okay. We leveled the tripod and staked two of its feet. The radiation boom is pointing at the tipping bucket. The boardwalks were also removed.
