Summary: Finished moving protecting soil sensors, installed Stardot Phenocam, soil CO2 left in diagnostic mode since last visit.
Alfalfa 2016-05-17 I arrived about 9:15. It was clear sunny and warm with a gusty wind from the north. The alfalfa is tall but very few flowers. Looks like someone sprayed the weeds around the tower with Roundup – they are all drying. I finished up the soil sensors. I put conduit on the soil thermocouples to the south and added a soil heat flux plate and a Theta probe buried at 10cm. I put conduit on the soil thermocouples to the northwest and added a soil heat flux plate. The SHF plates where added to the AM25T and the Theta probes were connected to the CR1000 using the switched 12V port for power. I collected data then uploaded a new program to add the new sensors and to remove the Forerunner forced diffusion channels. The Theta probes use the soil CO2 timing to turn on and measure 14 to 17 minutes into each half hour. The diagnostic flag on the soil CO2 CR1000 had been left on last time, so the CO2 sensors have been on and measuring since last visit. This was fixed with the upload of the new program. SHF sn 6342 moved (last week) from 1st (W) channel on met CR1000 to the 1st (NE) channel on the soil co2 CR1000 sn 6498 moved from 2nd (NW) channel on met CR1000 to the 2nd (SE) channel on the soil co2 CR1000 sn 6491 moved from 3rd (west) channel on met CR1000 to the 3rd (NE) channel on the soil co2 CR1000 Theta probes sn 377/010 cable was repaired in lab, was at 20cm, last week at 10cm 1st (SE) channel on soil co2 CR1000 sn 377/008 cable was repaired in lab, was at 10cm, now at 20cm 2nd (NE) channel on soil co2 CR1000 I also installed a Stardot Phenocam sn 0030F4D2148D on the camera post. I collected the met data from the CR1000 then updated its program and IP address for the camera and to remove the soil sensors. The camera sends images to the CR1000 FTP server and are saved on the CFM card. The camera is IP 192.168.2.101 and the CR1000 is 192.168.2.1. The CR1000 uses a 5th order polynomial to estimate sunrise and sunset and turns the camera on 30 minutes before sunrise and turns it off 30 minutes after sunset. The solar panels were dirty and need to be cleaned next time. |
