Summary: Flux system was non-operational despite the power being up. Rebooted flux system. Checked fans, system connections, multiplexers, and sensor values.

Weather clear, mild temperature, moderate west winds through delta
Phenology pig weed green, still in flower stage, but losing lots of lower leaves. Many yellow leaves on the ground
Tasks
1. check and download data at Sherman Island
2. Take TDR soil moisture readings
3. take spectrometer reflectance reading
4. Sample additional water Table ports
5. Sample LAI and plant height

Sherman Island Pasture Site
1. Fence and gate power: ok v.
2. Datalogger Solar Panel and Batteries: v;
3. Reading from Gillsonic screen before downloading data. (The value of H2O and CO2 should be in the range of 0 – 5 v.)

Flux system was not operating when I arrived. Power was up. Looks like there may have been a power failure on June 18..last time file wrote to disk. The eddy flux system did not reboot when re-powered. We need to make sure the computer system reboots so we don’t lose flux data in the future with a power outage.

Rebooted flux system. Sensors are working and are on scale.
4. Methane Sensor
a. Cell Pressure (near 159 Torr?):__111___

ii. Methane ppm Hi flow: 1851 ppb
iii. Methane ppm, low flow (remember to put back in high flow:
1889 ppb and 159 torr in low mode

iv. Pump status??:___pump was running_
v. Filter Status:______ found bee in the inlet of the tube. Need to get the gelman filter installed.
Removed bee and pressure in cell went back to 159 torr. This was an easy fix.
Found wasp building nest inside the ladder. Be careful and don’t get stung .Removed them, but they may be persistant.
vi. Check Water in tube:
Re-arranged tube so it can fill with gravity.

Calibrated the LGR system.
CMDL tank 1897.8 ppb, rounded to 1898 ppb.
Pre-cal Reading 1912 +/- 0.8 ppb at 159 torr, low flow rate.
Post calibration reading: 1897.7 +/- 0.7 ppm
Calibration is SPOT On, but we are seeing a drift in the calibration over time
Calibrated new secondary Standard: 1976 +/- 3 ppb.
Left new standard in the field, but took home the wrench and regulator. Lets not leave the regulator and wrench in the field, but bring them each time we calibrate. Lets try and calibrate weekly, or bi weekly in the near term to get a sense of the drift.
Returned LGR to field air.
Low flow, 159 torr, 32.5 C
Reading about 1930 ppb
Converted to Hi flow mode and 10 hz. Reading 159 torr and reading about 1931 ppb.

System seems to be back in action AOK

6. If Swapping Li-7500 Analyzer. (Remove SN# ; install SN# )
7. Check the fans of air temp. and relative humidity sensors
Tair 27.8 C, RH 41%
Put filter on pressure sensor (101.kPa) to keep bugs out.


8. Check MD-9 system connections
9. Check CR23X with two multiplexers and sensor values
System looks good. The moth balls are working well and killed all the pincher bugs

10. Check levels of Radiation sensors, clear up surfaces.
Cleaned sensors with alcohol. Was some dust on the sensors.
The diaper wipes are dry. But we should use them to clean the radiation sensors since they have vitamin e and aloe vera. Only use them to clean off bird crap from sensors etc.

Closed gate and set up fence.

Only went to calibrate today. Did not take soil moisture data.
