West Pond
2014-08-07

We arrived about 14:15 PDT. It was hot and sunny with a light breeze. The water level was back up to normal, so I raised the water CO2 probe a bit. Sara took water samples at the inlet and outlet. I collected data and battled the wasp horde.

Third time was the charm for kicking the wasps out of their castle. I dug out two large wasp nests from the ends of both booms that hold the flux instruments, and was finally able to clean all the instruments. I stuffed a rag in the end of one boom but we need permanent caps for both. I used the water sprayer to clear out a few other smaller nests under the boardwalks. The tower is wasp-free for the moment.

7500 readings:
CO2 = 367.5 ppm (385 after cleaning)
H2O = 835 mmol m-3 (770 after cleaning)
signal strength = 74.65% (81.86% after cleaning)
p = 100.9 kPa
t = 30.7 C
sos = 352.8 m s-1

7700 readings:
CH4 = 1.96 ppm (1.91 after cleaning)
RSSI = 35% (71% after cleaning)
Reservoir almost full.

Met looked good.
