Weather: hot and humid, very smoky because of wildfire
Phenology: yellow grass, green oak leaves (not blue yet)
Summary:
  1. check and download data at Tower, Floor, and Vaira. All three EC systems worked well.
  2. soil CO2 profile system had power problem. The battery was leaking and probably need to be replaced with a new one.
  3. oak leaves and branches for LMA and N
  4. read dendrometers
  5. measured soil Moisture
  6. show Dimmie around.
  7. Ted installed new Li820 into the CO2 profile system.
  8. Learn from Ted how to fix the COM problem (PC208W only can support the maximum number of COM less than 10.). Some notes about some issues:

(1) How to find “Device Manager”‌ Control Panel -> Admis -> computer manager -> Device manager
(2) Need labels: COM6 USBHob”; “COM7 CR10X11”; “COM8 CR10X13”; “COM9 CR10X15”.
(3) On each PC’s system Disk (C:), there is a configuration file of PC208W. Should copy it every time it’s changed. The file is “D:\Field_Notes\Year2008\ Ted_notes_on_COMsettings_tower_20001.PEF”

Vaira_Grass Site
  1. Fence and gate power: 12 v.
  2. Panel and Batteries: 13.5 v; 9.3 amps; 2.8 amps.
  3. Reading from Gillsonic screen before downloading data. (The value of H2O and CO2 should be in the range of 0 – 5 v.)

  1. downloading data YES!
  2. Check the fans of air temp. and relative humidity sensors at Vaira. YES!
  3. Check levels of Radiation sensors, clear up surfaces. YES!
  4. Check rain gage, make sure not clogged. YES!
  5. Closed gate and set up fence. YES!

Tonzi_Tower Site

  1. Fence and gate power: 12 v.
  2. Panel and Batteries: no check v; amps; amps.
  3. EC worked well.
  4. downloading data; YES!
  5. check the fans of air temp. and relative humidity sensors on the tower and the floor. YES! Ted checked. It’s broken. Ted showed us how to replace a new one.
  6. Check rain gage, make sure not clogged. YES!
  7. Check calibration cylinders; No check this time! Ted was installing a new Li820.

How to check the CO2 values‌ Click “Ports/Flags” button to see which ports or flags is setting high. Pressure should be less than ambient value. When Flag 8 is high, it may indicate that RRR’s battery is low.
