West Pond: 2013-06-27 11:15:00 (DOY 178)
Author: Cove Sturtevant
Others: Laurie, Yanel
Summary: Tules growing tall, some approaching tower height. Ant infestation down a notch. All else well.
West Pond 2013-06-27 We arrived around 11:15 PDT. It was hot (28 C), sunny, and a bit muggy with a light breeze. The inlet was running strong but the water under the tower was just slightly low. The tules continue to grow and the tallest large patches near to and upwind from the tower look to be only 1-1.5 m below the flux instruments. We may have a tower height issue by summers end. I will check the cospectra for problems. Laurie and Yanel took water samples. I downloaded the data, cleaned the flux instruments, and checked on our ant problem in the 7550. Better! Still a sizable population but lots of dead ant bodies and desiccated eggs. I think they are trapped inside the box after I resealed the break in the door lining last week. I also knocked down an attempt at a new wasp nest started by the displaced occupants from last week. 7500 readings: CO2 = 392 ppm (401 after cleaning) H2O = 910 mmol m-3 (840 after cleaning) signal strength = 85.2% (88.08% after cleaning) t = 29.5 C p = 101.4 kPa sos = 351 m s-1 7700 readings: CH4 = 1.88 ppm (same ppm after cleaning) RSSI =50.8, bumped to 85 after cleaning Reservoir was full. MET looked good except for low readings on the CO2 probe in the water which was just barely above the surface. Checked clock settings on the 7550: A-OK. |
