Summary: Sheep in the field. They plowed through our ground instruments, breaking some sensors. Swapped out 7500. Dataloggers were acting funny but ok now.
| DWR Corn 2013-04-26 We arrived around 14:00 PDT. It was sunny and warm (24 C) with a mild breeze. The field was full of sheep! For some unknown reason, they decided to plow the strip of land directly in front of the tower and chewed up several instruments. 2 soil heat flux plates were broken or missing, 1 was ok. 1 theta probe was missing, 2 are potentially okay. Several thermocouples were destroyed. Sara removed the damaged ground instruments and did spectral measurements while I attended to the tower. I swapped out the 7500 box and head and also fixed the camera mount. There was something funky going on with the datalogger. I could connect to the flux CR1000 but the readings were all frozen. I could not connect at all to the MET CR1000. I cycled the power on the flux CR1000 and all became better. Not sure how long the loggers were in this state or if there was any data loss. I removed 7500 box and head s/n 0073 and installed s/n 0976. 7500 readings after swap (s/n 0976): CO2: 16.5 mmol m-3 H2O: 420 mmol m-3 diag: 249 p = 101.9 sos = 345 MET was good except for the damaged instruments. |
