Summary: Fixed autocam mounting and power supply, cut grass, remounted open water boom and in coming PAR, removed old tule tripod.

Mayberry
2011-09-29

I arrived about 10PST. It was sunny and warm with a little breeze from the west. The cattails till seem to be growing, but the tules are dying. The water level is unchanged. Caltrans was working on the bridge right where we enter the road to the north side of Mayberry slough. They had a cherry picked mostly blocking the gate. I was just able to squeeze through.

Birds have been sitting on the auto cam and it was pointed at the ground. I checked the battery by disconnecting the solar panel and it seemed good. I replaced the power supply with a new Murata supply. I repositioned the camera and tightened the adjustment bolts.

It looks like otters have been using the solar panels as a slide. There was mud all over them and the grass around the base was beaten down. I washed the panels.

The LI7700 reservoir was almost full and the RSSI was about 47. I cleaned the mirrors and the RSSI rose to about 70. Upon swapping the CR1000 card, the new card failed to format. I resent the program and it took a long time but finally was okay.

I pulled, cut and stomp the weeds around the tower and along the path passed the solar panels.

At the tule tower, the open water radiometer boom was bent down probably by birds sitting on it. I took it down and remounted it with the stronger permanent mount. The solar panel also seemed to have been bent down and its mount is beginning to break. I need to replace this soon.

The incoming PAR was also knocked sideways. I remounted this in a more permanent way as well.

I cleaned up the wires spooling the excess and cable tying the cables to the scaffolding.

I found the wire for the tule SHF plate, but it needs to be extended. I also found the wire I put in place to connect the tule data logger to the main tower. I put the DB9 connectors that I tested in the lab on the ends, but could not communicate with it.

I measured the hieght of the radiation booms. The open water boom is 257cm above the water and the tule boom is 365cm above the water. The tules are about 240cm high.

I pulled out the tripod tower. The tule DO sensor was covered in gunk. I cleaned it with a rag and it looked okay. I hung it on the fence post the was used to anchor the tripod.

Something, probably otters have beaten down the tules near the old tule tower location.
