Summary: Installed scaffolding near Tule tower, collected data.

Mayberry
2011-08-25

I arrived about 9AM PDT with Jaclyn. It was clear and sunny with a good wind from the west. It was cool in the wind but warming quickly. The water level was perhaps a little lower. Jaclyn mentioned that Bryan has been having problems with turtles getting stuck in the siphons. The water level in the slough and in the river looked high. The Tule Tower is almost lost in the tules.

When we arrived we saw a couple of otters bobbing in the water. They disappeared as soon as was took notice of them.

We installed the scaffolding today. It is directly to the east of the existing Tule Tower about 1m from the edge of the tules. The east legs are on concrete piers and the west legs are on flat bricks. The two frames top out near the level of the radiometers on the Tule Tower and the top of the tules. The railings on the top extend the reach about a meter above the tules. A fence post was driven in at the center below the scaffolding and the four corners of the scaffolding were secured to the fence post with wire rope. I still need to tighten cable fittings. The scaffold didnt seem to settle any while we were there working on it.

Some of the fitting I bought to attach stuff to the scaffolding were too big. I need #3 conduit fittings.

I looked at moving the Tule sensors to the new tower, but most of the cables are too short. Some with have to be lengthened others will be okay but it will be a big job to reroute them.

Jaclyn downloaded the data and swapped the CR1000 card. The LI7700 RSSI was about 30 when we arrived and was 69 after she cleaned the bottom mirror.

I swapped the card in the auto cam. The camera was off and complained of low battery. I checked the voltages. The camera was getting 3.3V and I boosted this to 3.5V. The battery was about 15V from the solar panels.

We washed the solar panels and Jaclyn cut some of the weeds near the panels.
