Summary: Visiting student, patchy corn, spiky met/mux data--tightened some screws, camera card had issues when plugged into computer--only 2 photos, heat wave next two weeks

Bouldin Corn

Sharmila and I arrived around 12:25 PST (13:25 PDT). It was warm and breezy. Sharmila is an undergraduate student visiting AMP for a week and using Ameriflux data for her senior thesis. It’s only been a week since our last visit, but the schedule has been jiggered around because of Hill Slough soil sampling and the CRAM assessment for the wetland sites. There will be a major heat wave in the next two weeks.

The corn is patchy this year, maybe 50-60cm tall near the tower and around the edge of the field, maybe 20cm tall in the central part of the field.

I downloaded met, cam, USB GHG, and PA data. There were a lot of spikes in the met data, including the mux sensors and the thermocouples. I checked the mux wiring and the datalogger power, but didn’t see anything obvious. I removed the AM25T cover and tightened the ports that connect the AM25T to the CR1000. Most of the screws were at least ½-1 turn loose. The real-time data seemed ok.

Sharmila cleaned flux and rad sensors. I cleaned spiderwebs from the camera enclosure, inside and out. The wash reservoir was still full so we did not refill it.

The 7500 read: 421ppm CO2, 444mmol/m3 H2O, 29.3C, 101.1kPa, 101SS – 101 after cleaning
The 7700 read: 1.96ppm CH4, 34RSSI – 80 after cleaning

We left at 12:55 PST (13:55 PDT).

Back in the lab, the phenocam card had those gibberish folder names again. I ran Properties>Tools>Error Checking, which ended in an error and there were only two photos remaining on the card. I moved the two photos off and ran Error Checking again. This time it finished without issue, but there were no photos in the folder. I ran Recuva, which did not find any photos from the last two weeks. I reformatted the CF card.
