Summary: Standard data collection, testing LI-7810 chamber system, reglued phenocam window

Gilbert Tract

Daphne and I arrived at 10:00 PDT. The gate was open coming in and going out – some tractor work going on nearby. It was hot and getting hotter with only a little breeze and humid. The tule seeds look dried. This is the first time I’ve been to the site in about ten weeks and the plants have all gotten huge. The staff gauge read 69cm at 9:26 PST.

We are testing our new Licor LI-7810 (CO2/CH4/H2O) analyzer and LI-8100 Smart Chamber. It takes a long time for the analyzer to warm up (20-30min). I put a collar in shallow water on the north side of the boardwalk near the shore. We did three measurement cycles. CH4 flux was about 6nmol/m2/s and CO2 flux was about zero umol/m2/s. We put the analyzer in sleep mode to go to the next site.

Daphne downloaded data from the tower:
The 7500 read: 403ppm CO2, 966mmol/m3 H2O, 25.3C, 101.1kPa, 101-102SS
The 7700 read: 2.1ppm CH4, 48RSSI – 84 after cleaning
I refilled the wash reservoir that was 2/3s full. Daphne was worried that the 7700 thermocouple was not seated correctly but the optics RH was still low (7%). One edge is not quite flush with the housing but it seems to be doing its job – check at next calibration. Daphne added +45 sec to the eddy clock and restarted logging.

I clean the eddy and radiation sensors. The phenocam window was loose. I removed it, cleaned it and glued it back in place. I had to slide the camera back so the FOV might change a little bit. The data logger box had a bunch of mostly dead ants in it. Daphne swept them out and added more moth balls. We refreshed the miniDot desiccant.

At Flo, the water level was too high to do any weeding. Daphne collected the data, reset the clock and restarted the data logging.

We left at about 11:00 PDT
