Summary: Remove all sampling equipment from hotspot location, 1 boardwalk and 3 cinder blocks stashed at the main SW boardwalk
2022-11-18 Sherman Wetland Ari and I arrived to the hotspot location around 11:00 PST after servicing Mayberry. The purpose of today’s visit was to remove the hotspot sampling equipment. With Ari leaving next month, we don’t plan to sample here again anytime soon. There were a couple of CDFW trucks out there on the interior levee roads and lots of animal-related equipment in various piles. The vegetation has grown in a lot, so the hotspot location was not easy to find. We also weren’t sure if the boardwalk had been removed or was still onsite. I ate lunch while Ari tromped around in the wetland. Luckily (?), low water levels abide here as well, so Ari could search without getting her feet wet. The ground was dry for at least 4m south of the interior levee road. Ari looked at old photos from the sampling campaign and saw mostly phragmites in the photos. She concentrated her search in the phragmites clumps and finally found the sampling site, boardwalk and all. We removed everything from the sampling site: 1 boardwalk, 3 cinder blocks, and 2 chamber collars belonging to UCSC. We left the boardwalk and cinder blocks on the main SW boardwalk and brought the collars back to the lab. Ari will return the collars to UCSC. We left at 11:50 PST to head on to Twitchell Island. |
