Daphne and I arrived at about 12:00 noon after visiting Hill Slough in the morning. It was clear sunny and mild. There was some significant rain about a week ago but nothing since. The soil is damp but the surface is drying out again. Grass has germinated with greener patches under some trees. The pond water level seems unchanged or even a bit lower.

Daphne did the soil moisture and well measurements. She said that the well meter worked fine for two wells but was intermittent for the third but still seemed to get a good reading. She also serviced the z-cams replacing the clock battery in z-cam 2 and resetting its clock. Daphne also read the dendrometers.

I installed a new Arduino based rotating shadow band diffuse PAR on the Tower top. This system is independent using PAR sn 010164 and CR10X snXXXX to collect the data. It seemed to be running correctly. However, I browned out the 12V power later tightening screws on the multiplexor (SRS sensors have bare ground wires!) – a good test of power failure I guess.

I collected the fluxes, camera images, met and well data. I still could not connect to the Floor Well CR200 with the usual laptop. But the laptop we use for the Delta had no problem connecting – so definitely something wrong with the laptop. I guess I’ll reset all the serial drivers again.

The Tower read: 427.3ppm CO2, 274.3mmol/m3 H2O, 18.8C, 99.7kPa, 102.5SS
The Floor read: 424.9ppm CO2, 279.5mmol/m3 H2O, 18.9C, 99.8kPa, 98.6SS

I removed the CR23x sn 2301 and the IRT sensor sn 7385 from the cal panel near the Floor solar panels. The data seemed complete.

I checked on the power for the FD chamber – it was beginning to lose data. The batteries were at about 10V and the charge controller had a low voltage disconnect error and was showing no power from the solar panels. I checked the wire to the solar panels and the connections all seemed well. There was 21V from the solar panels and about 3A when shorted. I connected the solar panels directly to the batteries – they jumped to 12V and started climbing to about 12.4V. I collected data from the FD chamber but lost power again with a LVD when I tried to clear the memory. After restarting the chamber seemed to be running. I left things as is and hopefully we will get at least daytime data. That whole system needs rewiring. I also left the covers off the solar panel junction boxes – shouldn’t be a problem.

We left for Vaira at about 14:30
