Summary: Updated OSU CR3000, standard data collection, 7500 418 seems stable, removed most of old soil CO2 system, Checked PARout and LWin.
Tonzi 2022-10-05 I arrived at 10:50 PDT. It was clear, sunny, hot and dry with a little breeze from the west. The trees have lost most of their brown leaves so there is only a scattering of green leaves left. I met Rob on the way out and had to renegotiate the land use agreement which expires this month. We will pay 00 per year going forward. I forgot my todo list at home so had to muddle through. I updated the OSU CR3000 program to move the current excitation box from C3 to C4 and disconnected the unused NR01 heater control. Then I wired the soil water potential to C3 (SDI-12). It wasn’t working when it was sharing C7 with the SoilVue sensor. It responded on C3 but when I updated the program I also noticed that the SDI-12 command was issuing a 6M1! command instead of 6M! So it might have been fine on C7 with this fix. I also checked on the ECHO soil moisture probes that have errors. Both were wired okay. VWC2 has a NaN every once in a while that is corrupting the 30min average. VWC5 is just zero. Could be bad mux channels. More testing needed. I collected flux, met, camera, well and FD data. I serviced the zcams. I measured the wells, DBH and soil moisture. The well level sensor was acting flaky on the Floor and Road wells. I cleaned the pin and slot with the file on my Leatherman and it seemed to work better at the Tower well. We are keeping an eye on IRGA 418 on the Floor tower. Its SS had drifted more than usual after return from Licor. Today it as 98 – a little higher than in the lab but I think the other IRGAs were higher too. TT read: 416.6ppm CO2, 587.8mmol/m3 H2O, 27.0C, 99.1kPa, 100.0SS TF read: 424.7ppm CO2, 533.6mmol/m3 H2O, 29.1C, 99.2kPa, 98.0SS I removed much of the old soil co2 system. I left the boxes and a bunch of wire running between the boxes and power under the tree from the FD chamber. I also left the tubes in the soil just in case. I removed two relays, a DC-DC converter, eight transmitter boxes and: CR23X sn 2301 CO2 probes Tree -2 sn L2010069 Tree -4 sn G0150035 Tree -8 sn G0150036 Tree -16 sn Y2009100 Open -2 sn K1310104 Open -4 sn Z2720015 Open -8 sn K1340006 Open -16 sn K1310102 I checked on the wiring for PAR_out and LW_in at the Tower – these two channels have had random spikes. I think a screw terminal on LW_in tightened up a little bit and I moved the two PAR sensors further down the multiplexor. I left at about 14:30 PDT Checking the data in the lab - all the images from zcam 1 have been black since last field visit on 9/14. |
