Summary: No new power problems, soil co2 system seems okay, fixed fence corner post and shocked some cows. Went to the pond.

I arrived at about 12:25. There was fog in the Delta and at the coast this morning but here it is clear and sunny, but cool with a breeze from the west. The grass looks lush but has been kept short by the cows. There are puddles on the road and I saw lots of surface water in the fields on the way to Tonzi.

I measured the well, grass height inside the fencing, did spectral measurements, and collected met, flux, FD data and camera images. I didn’t see any power outages in the last two weeks but the weather has been mostly sunny. Daphne had problems with the soil co2 23x and I initially thought it had problems because LoggerNet was reporting “No Program”, so I unplugged the power from the data logger and the Eos co2 probes. I didn’t have a copy of the most recent program. But at the pond I realized that it was just LoggerNet that didn’t know what the program was. So I stopped on my way back out, was able to download a copy of the program as a DLD, open it in EdLog, and save a copy as a CSI. I was able to download all the data and all the data since last visit seems intact.

The cows have been putting pressure on the fence and had bumped the NW corner post braces loose. Dennis and Daphne temporarily fixed it last time. I took the fittings apart and had to pound one back into shape with a hammer. Then, with a lot of fussing I was able to get the braces back in place correctly. I straightened out the electric wire and turned on the fence. As I was doing spectra measurements, the cows came over to investigate the fencing. I saw at least a half dozen get shocked. I hope they have learned something. There is a worn down area around the fence where the cows have been trying to get at the longer grass inside the fence.

The road to the pond was passable in the rental car. A couple live oak trees have fallen near the pond and have been largely cut up for firewood. The pond was full but not over flowing. I forgot to write down the staff gauge reading but it was close to 21.6 feet.
