Summary: High tide - knee deep water at the tower, FD under water but seemed ok - removed, Well pipe floating - reinstalled, tested tipping bucket
Hill Slough 2021-10-26 I arrived at about 9:30 PDT. It was cool and partly cloudy with only a very light breeze. This is just after a record breaking storm of about 7in of rain in 24hrs. The site is covered in water! But not from the rain. High tide of 3.9ft at Suisun City was at about 8:30. The staff gauge on the board walk read 5.29ft at 10:16AM PDT. We may need to be more careful about writing down the time the staff gauge was read – I think the water level went down 0.02ft in the time I was there. There was evidence of water having been higher around the stairs to the boardwalk and looks like a high water line on the staff gauge at about 5.6ft. The lock on the first gate was really hard to open. I ended up banging on it with the adjustable wrench to get it to open. Some WD-40 would be a good idea next time (I didn’t have the blue bag). The FD chamber sn FD20190028 was completely under water. But when I pulled it out it was still running and I was able to collect data from it. I brought it in to clean up and test. We might be able to come up with a floating frame for it. I left the cable in place unplugging the power and tying the chamber connector under the data logger box for shelter from the weather. The well pipe had floated loose and was poking out of the water at an angle. The pressure sensor read 0.86 psi before I put it back in place. I pushed the pipe back into the hole in the ground and used a couple of the tie downs from the FD chamber to help hold it in place. I unfastened the sensor cable and checked to see if it felt like it was in the mud – it felt mud free. I fastened the cable in the same place but the position of the pipe may have changed. After reset the sensor read 2.04psi. I will look at the data but I’m not sure how much of it will be reliable. The rest of the tower seemed in good condition. I collected and deleted the picam images. I collected the met and flux data and cleaned the sensors – the net radiometers were a bit dirty from bird feet. The 7500 read: 425.2ppm CO2, 556.2mmol/m3 H2O, 102.4kPa, 15.2C, 98.7SS – 99.5 after cleaning The 7700 read: 2.0ppm CH4, 26.6RSSI – 72.6 after cleaning The wash reservoir was nearly empty – I refilled it. The lid was closed but not latched and there were a bunch of wasps in the wash box. The wind might have blown the lid closed – I left it open. I tested the tipping bucket sn 48130-611. There were some wasps inside the bucket – the grommet is missing from the cable opening. I chased most of the wasps out but there are still some inside so I did not plug the hole. I ran 240ml of water through the bucket using the peristaltic pump and got 53/50 tips. I meant to turn the screws 1 turn CCW but I think I may have turned them 2 turns CCW. Needs a retest next time anyways. The bolt for the radiation boom pivot is loose and needs to be tightened again. The power line between the tower and solar panels was also floating - air tight. I left at about 10:30 PDT |
