Summary: Standard fieldwork, checked ethernet lines, Moisture Point rods might be dead.
| Vaira 2021-09-16 I arrived at 11:00 PDT. It was clear but hazy and relatively cool for this time of year. There was a tiny bit of rain about a week ago from a passing thunderstorm but didn’t seem to do more than pockmark the dust. Most trees have some brown leaves, and few are mostly brown and a few are still mostly green. The grass seemed shorter (more grazed) than last time and I see young cows in the phenocam photos. I measured the well but did not go to the pond. I measured the Moisture Point at the biomass enclosure which seemed okay, but afterwards I found the bottom pin broken off and stuck in the cable connector. Then at the rod near the solar panels I noticed that the bottom pin was bent and broke when I tried to straighten it. This rod is also missing the top pin and didn’t read at all. So it’s possible we have no more functioning Moisture Point rods at Varia. I collected the met, flux, camera and FD chamber data. All seemed well. The 7500 read: 411.9ppm CO2, 536.5mmol/m3 H2O, 99.1kPa, 24.8C, 102.6SS I looked at the two Ethernet cables that run between the two towers. I cut the connector off the cable still in the camera case, moved the cable to inside the data logger box and put a new connector on it. This cable worked. I tried to test the continuity in the older cable but failed. Either the cable is completely broken or the adapters I was using limit continuity. I put a new connector on the end that was cut but could not communicate on it. I left at about 12:10 PDT |
