Bouldin Alfalfa: 2021-08-17 09:45:00 (DOY 229)
Author: Daphne Szutu
Others: Joe, Ariane
Summary: Regular data collection/cleaning, visitors from UCSC, hazy skies, spectral, veg height, alfalfa is flowering and ready to be mowed, added bird spikes to bouncer sonics
2021-08-17 Bouldin Alfalfa Joe, Ariane, and I arrived at 9:45 PDT. Visiting us for the day were Susan and Gracie, 2 of Adina’s students who will be working with the future eddy covariance towers at Elkhorn Slough. It was warm and the skies were hazy from wildfire smoke from fires around the state. The alfalfa is thigh high and is flowering. Many yellow butterflies flitting about and caterpillars, aphids, and ladybugs on the alfalfa. Joe took the long ladder and a spare microSD card to walk to the bouncer tower to download data and attach actual bird spikes to the sonics. He removed the small zip ties that we had attached as substitute bird spikes at our last visit. There were some wasps in the Bouncer tower data logger box - bring some moth balls next time. Ari, Susan, and Gracie cleaned flux and rad sensors. I downloaded met, camera, and USB GHG data. I downloaded the FD data and cleared its memory. I also downloaded the fast IRT data as a TOB1 file, the 30-min data as a TOA5 file and deleted the source files. I checked the 7700 pump after replacing the filter last time; it worked well. Ari took spectral and veg height measurements. Joe removed some raccoon poop on the solar panel and reported the solar panels need to be washed next time. Joe and I discussed how to aspirate the ATMOS14. We need 2x 6-32 bolts with threaded ends. Each bolt should be about 15cm long. We also need 2 spacers to put on the bolts to fit the fan and a power cable for the fan. LI-7500 readings: CO2 393ppm H2O 730ppm T 24.6C P 100.7kPa SS 100--> 101 after cleaning LI7700 readings: CH4 2.04 RSSI 28--> 83 after cleaning We left at 10:35 PDT. |
