Summary: Moved boxes, tipping bucket higher, set clock on phenocam, lots of wasps - left battery box open hoping they will leave.
Sherman Wetland 2016-09-22 I arrived about 9am. It was mostly sunny and cool with a strong breeze from the west. Everything looks very dry. I carried a bunch of stuff to the site, but it looks like it might be possible to drive on the old field level east of the new levee up to the beginning of the boardwalk. There were wasps and spider bedding down for winter everywhere. I got bit by a giant jumping spider that I accidentally squished with my hand. There were a bunch of wasps in the wash reservoir, a few in the data logger box and a ton in the battery box. There were also a bunch of spiders in the battery box. I threw some mothballs in the battery box and tied the door open. There were also two big wasp nests under the lower boardwalk on the tower that I cleaned off. I added a couple of studs with security nuts to the solar charge controller box. I moved the 7700 wash box higher up on the same corner post and rotated it so that you can reach it from the tower boardwalk. I moved the tipping rain bucket up to the railing between the tower and solar panels. It had a bunch of bird poop in it. There are probably several tips that will need to be cleaned out of the data. There was also a spider web keeping it from tipping. We probably need to clean and test all the buckets before it starts raining. I moved the data logger box higher up. Its top is now bolted to a cross brace and its bottom is screwed in to the 2x4 cross piece. The grounding wire was not long enough and needs an extension or a replacement. The HMP60 fan was not running. I could not measure 12V on the supply wire by the fan. I’m not sure where the problem is. Next time I’ll bring a 24V fan and we can swap it out and move the supply line to the 24V bus. The time on the Stardot camera was behind by three days and 1.5 hours. When the camera said 2016-09-19 09:21 I reset it to 2016-09-22 10:55. I also set the CR1000 met data logger clock for the radiometer comparison. It was only a couple of minutes off. I thought about moving the camera, but it doesn’t look like its shading the radiation sensors now that the sun has moved to the south and I was running out of time today. It still needs to be moved for next summer. The desiccant for the water level sensor needs to be replaced. I pounded a fence post in and tied the west side of the solar scaffolding to it. It might need a turnbuckle to tighten it up. The post will likely be completely under water when the wetland is flooded. I would also like to bolt a board to the boardwalk to tie the northeast corner of the scaffolding to. |
