Field Notes

Clear mild spring day. Grass is very green and the trees in the region are just starting to leaf out. There is a strong gradient at the Tonzi ranch. Near the gate the leaves are expanding, while at the field site the buds are only swelling. But they should be out in a day or two.

THE TOWER IS UP!!!! The Beckman Co just finished installing the Flux Tower. It is clean and Beautiful. About 2 canopy heights. The site is nearly perfect. Great density of trees. Fairly flat site. Much better than WBW. We note house to NW that occasionally burns garbage. Watch for it in the signals.

1130. Replaced PC at the Tonzi Ranch. We are able to talk to the Campbell data loggers. Downloaded data and started the forest floor flux system again. This should be the First Real day of data.

1600-1700 Setting up communications to the Far sap flow system, MD9_5. Communication was established. There is communication to the Campbell network now! Data are written to c:\tonzi

1730 Flux system up and running. It is drawing about 1.8 amps at present.

Ted cleaned up the soilmoisture and soil temperature data loggers

Leaf area was sampled in the open and under trees (4x4)
